Match 16: Group E: Ind v. WI: Bravo blanks India!

DJ Bravo took the game away from India single handedly. India are in bad position as they have to win both of their matches now--against England and South Africa. The match once was thought to be a low scoring affair with India losing top 3 wickets with just 29 on the board in the 5th over. All the 3 batsmen--Rohit Sharma, Raina and Gambhir, threw their wickets playing poor shots.

Dhoni and Yuvaraj played slowly for a while but Dhoni was caught by Fletcher of Bravo for 11. Yuvi played a superb innings brining pride to the Indian total. He scored a wonderful 67 off 43 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Yousuf Pathan accompanied him well and added 31 to his tally. They both added 64 for the 5th wicket in 33 balls.

Chasing 154, Fletcher lost his wicket for a duck. The plans of Indian worked out well in containing Gayle. Bhajji bowled a maiden against Gayle in the last over of the power play.

But, Bravo took the game away from Indians with his wonderful batting skills. He hit 3 sixes and 4 fours in his innings. He scored unbeaten 66 off just 36 balls.

Bravo also picked 4 wickets for 38 runs in his 4 overs spell. Wonderful fielding by West Indies gave them the needed break through. Simmons took two good catches to send Rohit Sharma and Gambhir back to pavilion.

Match 15: Group F: SL v. Pak: Dilshan and Malinga guide SL Win!

Dilshan scored a 38 ball 46 and gave a good start to Sri Lanka. Malinga picked 3 wickets which helped SL to come back in the game. Skipper Younis Khan's half century was not a threat to the Lankan team as they were picking wickets at regular intervals.

Now, Pakistan has to win their other games though they will not take Ireland very lightly.

Final: SL v. Pak: Afridi gives Pakistan the World Cup!

Afridi's wonderful batting in the final gave Pakistan the ICC T20 World Cup 2009. Chasing 139, Afridi scored an unbeaten 54 from 40 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes.

Though Sri Lanka did not a good start, they managed to put a decent and fighting 138. Skipper Sangakkara played a wonderful captain's innings and reached another fifty in his T20 career. He was 64 not out in 52 balls with 7 fours.

The match started with a wicket maiden over from Mohammad Aamer picking the wicket of Dilshan in the 5th ball.

Abdul Razzak picked Mubarak for a duck putting pressure on SL. With 2 for 2 in 2 overs, SL were under deep trouble. Jayasuriya and Sangakkara added 24 for the 3rd wicket but Jayasuriya was bowled by Abdul Razzak for 17.

Jayawardene was caught by Misbah off Razzak who picked 3 wickets giving away 20 runs in his 3 overs. Silva scored 14 while Udana scored 1. SL were 70 for 6 in 13 overs, a worst start in the final.

But Sangakkara and Matthews played sensibly and ensured that they play the full quota of 20 overs. They added 68 in 42 balls to take SL to 138. Matthews scored 35 in 24 balls with 3 fours and a six.

This was not enough for Sri Lanka when a batsman like Afridi was going great guns.

The first wicket partnership was 48, a good start. Both Akmal and Hasan hammered all the bowlers. The break through came from Jayasuriya when Akmal came down the track and missed the ball to Sangakkara who stumped him.

15 runs later, other opener Hasan was caught by Jayasuriya. But after that, it was Afridi and former skipper Malik who took the Pakistani team to the winning trophy.

The three Ms of SL--Malinga, Muralitharan and Mendis could not turn the match in SL's favor. Mendis was punished as ended with 34 in his 4 overs. Malinga ended 0 for 14 in 3.4 while Muralitharan picked 1 wicket in his 3 overs giving away 20 overs.

Udana went for 44 in his 4 overs and proved costly. The show was stolen by Afridi and in both batting and bowling department.

Afridi was declared man of the match and Tilakarathne Dilshan was given player of the tournament for scoring most runs in the tournament.
